AVILLA - Phyllis G. Noffze, 95, lifetime Avilla resident died on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.
Mrs. Noffze was born on September 24, 1917 in Allen Township, Indiana to Albert and Ella (Hess) Hoot. She spent her lifetime in Avilla, and graduated from Avilla High School in the Class of 1935.
She married George Noffze on October 20, 1935. He died on July 6, 1975. She retired from St. James Restaurant in Avilla after many years of service.
She loved working and visiting with her friends. In her high school yeas she played basketball. She was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She volunteered at Provena Sacred Heart Home and Shepherd of the Hill Nursing Home in Kendallville. She enjoyed crocheting, puzzles and was an avid sports watcher on television.
Surviving are three daughters and two sons in law, Marilynn and Duane Smith of Kendallville, Suzanne and Larry Vendrely of Sebring, Florida, and Martha Gulker of Auburn. Six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister, Idress Miller.
Funeral services for Mrs. Noffze will be on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel. Pastor Patrick Kuhlman and Tom Novy will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday at the funeral home. Also one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.
Burial will be next to her husband at the Lutheran Cemetery in Avilla.
